Default Mandolin set up in Australia?

    Hi there,
I live in Victoria, Australia and I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to have a mandolin set up? I am looking to import a mandolin from overseas and, as I understand, mandolins often need to be set up/refined when first bought but I don't know where I can get this done in Victoria. Thanks in advance.

Yeah take it down to a bloke called Gilchrist.
Just kidding - no sorry - don't know anyone in Vic.

Have a look here and see if any of the Victorians can help.

BTW there are some fantastic Aussie builders, why not choose one of them?

Ooh post #666 - might leave it at that. (Did I hear a collective sigh of relief?)

Real Guitars in Glen Iris. Talk to Brenden Mason. I've just picked up a banjo mandolin that he's just set up for me. Is about 50 years old and unplayed for the last 40. Came up better than expected. He's done a lot of work on old guitars, mandolins, ukeleles.

These guys at Australian Bluegrass might be able to point you in the right direction.
I know they based in Victoria.

Or learn how to do it yourself. Email me at rob.meldrum@gmail.com for my ebook. It is free to all mandolincafe members. Do a search on this site to see what others have said.

Jack Spira lives in Gembrook north of Melbourne and does set up work in Melbourne. You could contact him. He builds a great mandolin, too (amongst other great instruments).
