    Default San Diego jams

    Hey folks,

I'm heading to San Diego for a few days next week, arriving late Tuesday night and flying back Saturday night. Wondering if anyone knows of any pickin in the area. I'll be staying downtown and do not have a car, so ideally something would be within walking distance to the city center or accesible by bus. I might try to head up to Buffalo Brothers but that might prove difficult without a car.

Any suggestions for jams or for other mandolin/bluegrass related activities would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Charlie

Lots of stuff going here, but unfortunately most of it is not near or around downtown. Jams tend to be happening in what we call the North County area - Poway, Encinitas and Escondido etc. Check out the calendar of events at the following palces:

Another cafe member just turned me on to a Thurs night jam up in Encinitas that sounds like a lot of fun:

Enjoy your stay here. Public transportation in this town isn't exactly great, but lots of good car rental around downtown that offers pretty good rates, esp. through Kayak. I'll check them out for sure.

The Encinitas Jam is every Thursday nite at a restaurant called Today's Pizza on Santa Fe Drive off I-5; usually 20-30 pickers show up as the entertainment for the restaurant. Jason Weiss who leads the jam drives up from San Diego. If you go to Facebook there is a Thursday Nite Pickers page from which you can contact Jason. Send me a message if you're having a problem, and we can figure out a ride.
