cheap Mustang III modeling. I'm a vintage tube guy, but I bought this to have a high powered amp with effects for the occasional rock gig. also a great practice amp. sound is a standard preset.

awesome jim. grab the 4 button pedal for that amp. from the mustang V. you can have 3 presets then. I use one all the time. the 4 button opens up way more options like turning individual fx on and off on the fly....

my only complaint was having to edit the patches to equal out sound levels.

Nope, no pedals. Again, I'd rather be using a Marshall 50 watt plexi with a FuzzFace, an EchoPlex, and a Univibe, but modeling amps have come a long way and are great for practice and the occasional rock gig. If I were gigging out in a blues context, I'd use my 57 Gibson GA20T, maybe a reverb and delay pedal, and nothing else other than the instrument. For a $300 amp, the Mustang III covers a lot of ground: connects to your Mac/PC via USB for preset changes through Fender software, can hold 99 presets (I think this is correct), models all the classic Fender amps, responds to pick dynamics correctly, and has an entire rack full of gear inside. I don't like the majority of the presets and see myself never using them. The basic amps are great. There's a Derek Allman Layla-like tweed champ preset that's great. This one for the video was a Santana one. One I've really enjoyed==and I'll use for a new Voodoo Child video using this mandolin==is one called "Cliffs," that's based on Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover sound (which I will, at some point, work up for mandolin). One other one I like is called "Black Hole Thing," which is based on Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun." That's a great preset.

Thanks for this! I've toyed with the idea of getting an emando, and this seems a nice amp to start out with given its versitility
