Nice ! Where did you get the drawings from ? I have been looking for a bowl back mandolin kit (or drawing) but could not find one. It is not urgent any more because I bought a flat bottom kit. But I am still interested for a second mandolin later.

It looks like he drew it from the photo (or the actual instrument). Is that one made by Carlo Albertini?

Yaron, which wood have you used ? How have you bent the wood strips and how thick are the wood strips ?

Thanks to all - some answers...
The wood is a very very old walnut, (hard and stiff as rosewood)
I bent it by hand on an iron heater.
Started with approx' 2mm thick strips and at the joints it reduces to less than 1.5 mm (hard to say)
and the strips thickness got down with a scraper to less than 2 mm

    Regards,

Hey Cotcot, check out the resources on building a Lute or Oud on the net. There are a number very good books as well. The dimensions can be derived from the string length or from an extant instrument. There are also sites with excellent photos of Calace mandolins as well.

There is a master luthier Lorenzo who helped with this building so as a "Thanks" gift - I draw this painting for him
