    Default You Gotta Be Modernistic

Here's a little arrangement of James P. Johnson's 'You Gotta Be Modernistic' for mandolin and violin, with fellow Mannes faculty member Miranda Cuckson playing quite brilliantly. I did it recently for her new music ensemble nunc, and here we are doing it again on my faculty recital. I'll attach the sheet music below if anyone's interested in performing it.

Interesting rendition, Joe. I checked out the original and I can hear very small traces of stride in yours. Thanks for posting.

"Very small traces" is accurate! As you know, I've never been terribly interested in remaining faithful to the source material I'm making an arrangement of. I just take the bits I need

Understood... I was amazed at how very modernistic JPJ's music was!

At first I recognized Goldmark Hall; then I thought, befuddled, "What is that thing Miranda is holding?"

Brought back memories, and a big smile on my face.

    Grrrrrrrrreat job, both of you!

    Three cheers,

    Victor

This was great! Thanks for sharing the performance and the arrangement! (Not that I can play it, but I can learn from it.)
