Thread: "Chop chords" or "FFcP"??

    Question "Chop chords" or "FFcP"??

    Hello Mandolin players,

I am not an expert in the terminologies for bluegrass and jazz styles .... so ....

What is the technical difference between "Chop Chords" and "Four Fingers closed Position - FFcP"?

    Musical Regards

A chop chord is a type of chord played for percussive style in bluegrass. It can use all four fingers for the typical "G-chop" shape, but it has nothing to do with the FFcP regimen.

FFcP is a practice regimen for scales and such, to exercise playing with all four fingers up the neck (i.e. getting out of first position and away from open strings). Read more on it here: http://jazzmando.com/ffcp_studies.shtml
