Thread: Double Neck Mandolin and Ukulele

    Default Double Neck Mandolin and Ukulele

    I'm building a double neck instrument with an 8 string mandolin (really a mandola) on the top, and a 4 string ukulele on bottom. You'll notice that it's heavily based on a Gibson EDS-1275 double neck guitar.

    Specs:

    Body = Mahogany
    Necks = Maple
    Fretboards = Bubinga
    Pickguards = Bubinga
    Scale length = 17 inches.

    I'm giving the body and necks a heritage cherry (transparent red) finish. The pickguards and headstock faces will be black.

    If all goes well, I should be assembling this in 3-4 weeks.

    Pretty boards, the uke almost looks like figured Redwood. (plus Bubinga's just fun to say!)

    It's done! I'm working on writing a song for it. The demo video will come out this Saturday (June 8th).

    I was a huge Led head in my younger days so that is close to my heart. Nice job! Cant' wait for the video demo to see it in action.

    Here are some pictures and a video of my completed double neck. The mandolin is turned a octave lower than a normal mandolin, so I guess that makes it an octave mandolin.

    I'm very happy with this thing.

    A Sitar version would be cool w/ the Buzzing bridges

    Rather cool...but if the 4 string neck has metal strings, it's not really a 'ukulele as much as a cavaquinho, with transposed modern tuning.
