Default $12.50 Harmony In The House....

Had this thing kicking around for years, and after falling in love with a friend's Gibson TG-1, decided to get this thing going so I could use it on a recording...
    First of all, the pricetag:

    Full monte:

    Plain Jane:

The reason why it was 12.50:

    Nice checking:

    Peghead:

Anyway, this thing sounds great, even with the duct tape quick fix...
Not as nice as the TG-1 (which is one of the most amazing instruments I've heard lately), but very usable on tape...

    Gotta love a 12.50 tenor...

    Great find there!

The bones of it look a lot like a tenor guitar that a friend found for me and extensively modified, years back. I've never known what brand mine started as...could be the same....

When I get a moment I'll upload some photos and tell the story. Mine's currently strung up as a 4-string octave mandolin and, like your description, sounds really great.

    Enjoy your new friend!

Heck, Spider Murphy was pickin' one of these last time I saw him and it sounded fine.

I had a couple of these many moons ago and thought they sounded fine, untill I got a Gibson TG-1 and then a Martin O-18T. But, for $ 12.50 you cant go wrong. You can not ignore the mojo of this tenor, duct tape and all. I think these have that funky, elusive tone you here on old jug band and blues recordings where great players were playing economy instruments.

Wow, Bruce. Original duct tape has got to be worth something right there. I love the cheapies that are playable.

Now, if you΄re going to remove the tape, you΄d better do it with propper x-ray protective clothing:

Played the Gibson all day yesterday at Folklife side by side Brads. They are both wonderful tenors. Will post some pics
