I have doubts about the originality of the finish on the back and sides of this mandolin. The color is not what I'm used to seeing on an early 1910's style A. They usually have more of a red and/or a deeper brown tint.
I also see an open seam on the back of the peghead, and a couple of spots on the body that might need attention.

Yes!!! Now, just like that, but in a mandolin. And with purple. But I like that it's a Rickenbacker.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this one but maybe someone can clue me up about what it is...

That's pretty cool looking. If I were in the UK I'd bid on it just because it's so unusual.

The bridge, very simple, seems to be sitting in puddle of putty or mastic. What an odd combination of primitivism and sophistication!
It makes me think of a cloud, perhaps that was the inspiration?

the bowl looks like it started life as two woven wooden salad bowls.
Yes, or maybe woven bamboo. We used to have a bowl like that. Photos not clear enough to know for sure. Although it is bottle gourd shaped, definitely not a bottle gourd (which make cool instruments - I once impressed an incipient girlfriend by making a “cucurbitar” for her Renaissance party).

Thing is, that probably IS going to get not only some bids but a buyer. Heck, for £10, take the top and neck off, and you've got yourself a pretty good-sized serving bowl.

I was amazed that anyone would ask $1,200 for a mandolin case. At first, I thought the poster meant $120. But when I double-checked --- REALLY?!

Collings Handmade A Style Traditional Mandolin Case - $1,200 (Portland)
I have two A Style Collings Handmade Traditional Mandolin cases, New Old Stock.
27.5" internal length
10" lower bout
6.6" headstock length
4.75" headstock width
3" internal depth
Fits my Ellis mandolins like a glove. These will not work with a Tone-Gard.
$1200 each, pickup in NE Portland
Those were upscale cases and were only made for a short time. I think the price was around that much. I am fine with my TKL cases but for ultimate in luxury the Collings will do. I assume that you are aware of the prices for Calton cases?

Apart from the shiny interior, it doesn’t actually look that different to the case my Collings mandola came in. As for Caltons, I’m always shocked at the current prices people are paying. The last one I bought; made to measure by Keith Calton back in 2008, cost me £225 including delivery.
