Default Looking for MP3s of mandolin playing Irish/Celtic tunes

I am looking to find a cd or a website in were I can find mp3s of the tunes I am looking to find and just listen to learn them better. Free is good.

I searched a few here on the cafe, but most of them are of not a mandolin playing them.

    Thank you for any help.

Youtube, Amazon, Elderly, etc... It might be helpful if we knew what songs (and who's version) you're trying to learn.

    The price is right.

Your best bet is the Cafe's Song-A-Week social group, which has recordings of most of the standard session tunes (and many non-standard ones), played at different speeds and skill levels -- and if you want to record your own versions, you'll be made very welcome. Check the regularly-updated index posts for a list of tunes.

Thank you all, I'll work with these!

I guess I was looking for a one stop place to pull mp3s from on jigs, reels, etc.

I should probably also point you at Aidan Crossey's site, which is currently dormant but which still has a large number of MP3 for free download recorded specially for Aidan by many of the best Irish/Celtic mandolin players:

You can also check out the School Tunes section of the Riley School of Irish Music's website - a great variety of jigs, reels, hornpipes, barndances, slow airs. They're not played on the mandolin, but ARE played both slowly and at a more normal speed (still on the slow side but at least gives you an idea of what it should start sounding like) My advice would be to not be married to the idea of needing to hear mandolin specific irish trad tunes because there just isn't a lot out there so why restrict yourself that way? I took a tenor banjo workshop that Kieran Hanrahan taught several years ago - his advice was to not just listen to tenor banjo players, but to also seek out the recordings of box players, fiddle, flute etc. For mandolin specific recordings you'll not go far wrong with Marla Fibish's Irish Mandolin Basics, great stuff there.

Jill won't say it so I will: For some great Irish trad tunes played on the mandolin, take a look at Jill's youtube channel.

Plus one on Marla's DVD. Very well done and useful.

I have been learning a few fiddle tunes from various traditional recordings via Amazing Slow Downer. It's pretty easy to do the conversion by ear and ASD makes it so simple to change tempo (which for me, is always make it slower...) on the fly. Well worth the cost of the program.

    Try these too:

    Playing Mandolin - http://www.playingmandolin.co.uk/index.html
This is a fairly new site in the UK for mainly Celtic mandolin, but getting lots of audio and video contributions from NA.

The Irish Tenor Banjo - http://theirishtenorbanjo.ning.com/
Don't let the site name scare you off, there's an entire group devoted to mandolin -- go directly to the Mandolin groups link on the right of the home page (scroll down till you find it).

I'll second Richard's endorsement of Amazing Slow Downer -- VERY useful for learning tunes as you can change both speed and pitch.

We have 40 free Celtic cuts on the Cafe's MP3 page under that category, all downloadable, used with permission.

I found these two mp3 albums on Amazon and I love them. The 2nd one is classical but still really good. The other Irish Mandolin mp3's on Amazon aren't as good as this one but you may like them.
