I think this is out of print on CD. It looks like there are used albums out there for sale. I downloaded my copy at iTunes.

Heard a great concert by Sharon Gilchrist (playing a Gilchrist, natch) and Scott Nygaard (on a J-45--the first Gibson I've heard Scott play) over the weekend.

Really nice mix of traditional and original songs and tunes, with plenty of hot picking, cool interpretations, and sweet duet singing. They have been playing around the SF bay area sporadically. Check 'em out.

This show was at Stevie Coyle's Mighty Fine Guitars over in Lafayette, California, and that's well worth checking out, too. He does indeed have some mighty fine instruments, including a few vintage mandolins. The concert/workshop series is excellent. Mike Compton will be teaching there later this month and he's got a dream lineup of guitarists slated.

For a Scottish/Celtic flavour I would highly recommend Kevin MacLeod - "Dorney Rock" which has some fantastic duets between Kevin and Orkney guitarist Kris Drever. Also the cd "Like Father Like Son" by Dagger Gordon and Colin Gordon.

Not exclusively mando and guitar but Cahalen Morrison and Eli West are in my listening rotation a lot these days.

I just got a copy of "Bumpy Road" John Reischman on mandolin and John Miller on guitar

Reischman's mandolin work is brilliant, and the guitar or John Miller makes a nice counter point to it

Good driving music - the kind of "put on the cruise and roll the windows down on a sunny morning" drive.

there's a fair amount of Bittencourt sounding stuff on there.

Don Julin and Billy Strings as far as modern day stuff is concerned. Don's got his stuff down solid.

This blistering break by Don @ the 2:15 mark or so just blows my mind. Talk about clean.

This might not be what you are looking for at all, but I just came across a young duo who play classical guitar and mandolin. Here's the youtube video:

    I loved it!

    Armstrong Twins
    Louvin Brothers
    Homer and Jethro
    Skaggs and Rice
    Thile and Daves

As far as playing duets, I am not as much a fan of mandolin and guitar. I would rather duet with a less percussive more continuous instrument, like a fiddle, or a flute. That is the most fun for me.

The Buckhannon Brothers' "Little River Stomp" CD remains my favorite mandolin CD after many years.

John Carlini and Don Stiernberg might make the cut.

The Lilly Brothers. Actually the record they made as a duo is a trio as there is a bass on it but I'll vote for them anyway.
And another vote for Klauder and Willms!

Really great stuff. Thanks for sharing. I'll also second (or third) the Louvin Bros. Not flashy mando work but always based beautifully on the melody.

Some great duos mentioned thus far! I'll throw in Growling Old Men, which I think I found through this site originally.

Not bluegrass.........Jimmy Seals & Dash Crofts had some great guitar/mando tunes back in the late 60s thru mid 70s.

Slightly askew - but it works nonetheless: Dave Grisman & Doc Watson (with Alan O'Bryant on harmony vocal) doing 'Nine Pound Hamer'.

I never tire of listening to this - it was a key piece of inspiration for me in my very first days of playing mandolin . . . and nowadays I play just like Dave Grisman . . . okay, maybe not exactly like Dawg . . . I probably play more like Dawg's dog . . .

I've only seen Julian Lange and Chris Thile play together as a duet on "Live from here", but I really hope that they will collaborate on a guitar and mandolin duets album or something sometime in the near future

Mandolin Orange - not bluegrass and not exclusive guitar/mando but great anyway
    Skaggs and Rice
    Doc and Dog
Reischman and Miller played a set at our local festival a couple of years ago and it was great
Also Reischman, Sharon Gilchrist and Scott Nyguard
